If you hadn’t guessed my name is John Hurle and I’m a structural engineer working in London, a chartered Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (CEng MICE) and certified with the Project Management Institute as a Project Management Professional (PMP). I’ve been lucky enough to design buildings from Peru to China via Denmark, Finland and Qatar; working with some of the UK’s leading architects including ABA, dRMM and FCBS who are all past winners of the RIBA Stirling Prize. My current focus is on creating new homes in the capital.
Since my chartership, I am keen to help other people become engineers. To date this includes mentoring engineers towards Master’s Projects, Chartership or National Awards; and lecturing at Imperial College and University College London.
This blog is my attempt to explain engineering to the many people who aren’t exactly sure what it is, but would like to find out more. I’d love to hear from you.
